Why Houshygama’ana Lab?

Amplifying Influence

During 2014 and 2015, Housh Yagma’ana successfully upgraded seven different schoolyards in Gasa, New Damietta and Alexandria with the participation of more than 50 playworkers. This year our main goal is to let our influence go beyond those who can directly participate in our project. Thus, we are building a new channel of support with our existing network of playworkers, Houshygma’ana Lab. Houshygma’ana Lab is an educational program designed to enforce the role of playworkers to be capable of disseminating concepts of knowledge sharing and community centered projects.

About the Program

The program include 4 different Modules in which the  playworker receives 4 different certificates through learning by doing . the modules are as following:

Module 1: In which the participant will attend the input lectures, then prepare and moderate a co-design workshop with Alexandria university students and a consultation workshop with the teachers of the school.

Module 2: In which the participant will attend the input lectures, then prepare and moderate a co-design workshop with Alexandria university students and a consultation workshop with the teachers of the school. The module is finalized by organizing and moderating the participatory building  workshop at the selected school in Alexandria.

Module 3:  In which the participant will attend the input lectures, then prepare and moderate 2 separate teacher consultation design sessions in both schools in El Sheikh Zayed. In this module the participant also organizes and moderates both  participatory building workshops in Zayed schools.

Module 4:  In which the participant will attend the input lectures, then prepare and moderate 2 separate teacher consultation design sessions in both schools in El Sheikh Zayed. In this module the participant also organizes and moderates one (4A/4B)   participatory building workshops in Zayed schools.

What’s in it for you?

In Houshygma’ana Lab, participants can accommodate the process of any community support project through:

  • Learning about design principles and workshop preparations through early info sessions.
  • Facilitating different sessions of either design or community workshops.
  • Taking charge of consultation workshops.
  • Finalizing working drawings and monitoring execution.

On successfully completing one of the modules, the Playworker will be granted the certificate of participation according to modules and an internship certificate from Ecumene Studio.

Terms and conditions

–   During application phase, playworkers should select their Houshygma’ana Lab module.

– Playworkers are obliged to commit to their selected module to benefit from it the most. Only playworkers who have attended 90% or more of the module will receive the participation and internship certificate.

–   Houshygma’ana Lab is limited to 10 seats only .

Main Role:

-To ensure that ongoing community support development projects are implemented efficiently, successfully and within the agreed terms of the project.

Main Responsibilities:

The project associates is involved in all aspects of project implementation. This includes ensuring the project stays within the budget, working with staff and other individuals to implement project activities, monitor and report on progress, analyze data, make suggested corrections if needed and write final project reports.

Essential Activities:

-To support the project executive director

-Schedule and coordinate video conferences, speaking engagements, programs and meetings.

-Strategize for contingency planning and risk mitigation and schedule project deliverables, milestones and goals.

-Coordinate weekly update meetings with implementation team and partners.

-Organize resources, meetings and participant scheduling and prepare meeting materials.

-Develop and manage project documents and disseminate meeting minutes.

-To organize the different community and stakeholder workshops and focus groups

-To promote the project and develop community outreach plan

-To help the workshop moderator in the selection of volunteers.

-To moderate and supervise the volunteers

-To check with each team members (Technical Team) to ensure that they are performing well

-To manage conflicts

-To be representative of the TT to involved stakeholders.

-To create and maintain an atmosphere of enthusiasm, cooperation, teamwork among the staff members.

– Negotiate pricing for logistics, materials, and services

Coordination Activities:

-Full coordination of the project with providing support and advice to different project team members and partners

Qualifications

-Candidate with minimum Master degree and minimum 3 years experience in project management.

-Computer skills: Editing programs, graphic programs (Adobe)

-Experience in financial management and reporting plus good writing skills.

Main Role:

To aid in the design process of Ecumene studio’s upcoming projects

Main Responsibilities:

The junior Architect is involved in all aspects of project design phase. This includes assisting the team in the research phase, the design process and representation and production of all needed drawings, reports and physical models.

Essential Activities:

– To gather information and research concerning a variety of topics supporting the design process.

– To summarize and communicate his/her research findings in a legible and creative method.

-To collect, create and provide working data (Site measurements, Supplementary softcopy working files…etc).

-To conduct and support in the overall Design and detailing tasks.

-To refine the final design outputs (Preparation for construction phase).

-To attend weekly update meetings with implementation team and partners.

– To create physical mock- ups of the output design.

-Provide finalized and coherent documentation of all his tasks.

Qualifications

-Candidate may be a student in his final year of architecture, a fresh graduate or a graduate with 1 year of experience.

-Computer skills: – 2D AutoCAD    (compulsory)

– Google Sketchup 3D (compulsory)

– Microsoft office (compulsory)

– Adobe Photoshop& Illustrator (preferable)

– Language skills: Good command of English for research and writing purposes.
